“The battle between those who use propagating knives to take cuttings and those who use axes to fell trees is like the one between David and Goliath. But we know who won.”
― Sr. Don Carlos Magdalena
Scientific & Botanical Research Horticulturist RBG Kew. International Lecturer.
I specialise in tropical plants, plant propagation and plant conservation. Kew Gardens is the world-leader in plant diversity science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a major visitor attraction that shows the importance of plants in all our lives. I nurture critically endangered plants and it is this commitment to bringing plants back from the brink of extinction that has earned me the moniker of El Mesías de las Plantas, the Plant Messiah.
Inspired by my upbringing in the lush Spanish region of Asturias amongst a family of plant enthusiasts, I have over two decades of horticultural experience. I balance my work in Kew’s iconic Tropical Nursery, with international plant hunting assignments, public speaking, lecturing, photography and TV and media appearances on the topic of global plant conservation.

Many thanks.
